Call for applications: Visiting scholar space and funding for stay in Shanghai
Nordic Centre provides academic services and office spaces for visiting scholars from our Nordic member universities. If you are a researcher at one of our universities and want an entry point to academic China, or a base for working with external actors in Shanghai, this opportunity is for you. We also accept master's level students working on their theses.
If you come to Nordic Centre or other places at Fudan University as a visiting scholar, you may also apply for funding (the 'research platform') for travel to Shanghai and back home, and for expenses arising from your stay (this however is not open to BA and MA students). Preference is given to applications that show a potential for long-term collaboration.
Visiting scholars can be from any kind of academic discipline, and the stays in Shanghai can be for whatever purpose is relevant to your work -- from meeting new or already acquainted colleagues working in the same field to gathering data or writing papers. We can help connect you to local academics at Fudan University or elsewhere, and can also offer advice on how to reach locals with surveys or for interviews, and inform you about important things to keep in mind when operating in China. We also of course have a library and various venues for activities; you will also have access to Fudan University's main library.
Please read our Handbook for Visiting Scholars to get an overview of what we offer, and how to prepare for coming to China.
The application form for funding is here. Note that Fudan scholars can also apply for funding for research visits to the Nordic countries to work with colleagues at our member universities there -- so please inform your Chinese collaborators about this opportunity.
Applications for 1) an office space as a visiting scholar or for 2) funding for visits/stays in Shanghai can be sent at any time, to magnus@nordiccentre.net
Also contact us if you have any questions about this opportunity.
Note that the fee for one month's office space is 100 euros -- though we sometimes waive this under special circumstances, or if the visiting scholar is the recipient of our research platform funding.
